Sound familiar
If you do not quite recognise your own mind right now, you are in the right place
There is the menopause women are told to expect, and there is the one a lot of women actually live. The second one is harder to name, harder to explain and much harder to find support for.
- Anxiety that arrived from nowhere and attached itself to things that never used to bother you.
- A word disappears mid sentence and some quiet part of you wonders what is happening.
- Awake at three, wired and exhausted at the same time.
- You snap at people you love, then carry it for the rest of the day.
- Small things land like big things and talking yourself down stops working.
- Tired in a way that sleep does not touch.
- Jaw tight, shoulders up, stomach unsettled, and nothing obvious to blame.
- You catch your own reaction and think, that is not me.
Most women are told some version of "it is just your age" and left to get on with it. That is not support, and the mental side of this is the part that gets the least attention while doing the most damage to how your days actually feel.
Why nothing has held
You have almost certainly tried most of this already
None of it is useless. It is just all aimed at the wrong layer.
Reading everything about hormones
You know more about oestrogen than most people you meet. Knowing it has not made three in the morning any shorter.
Fixing your sleep first
Reasonable, and it is usually the mind keeping you up rather than the sleep hygiene letting you down.
Cutting the caffeine and the wine
Both worth doing and both help a bit. Neither one is why you cannot talk yourself down any more.
Pushing through the way you always have
It worked for twenty years. It is working less well now, and that is not a discipline problem.
Waiting for it to pass
It does change. Meanwhile you are living the years in between, and they count.
Being told it is just your age
Which explains nothing, helps nothing, and somehow still manages to sound like your fault.
You have not lost yourself and you are not imagining it. The reactivity runs below conscious thought, which is exactly where these sessions work.
Ten minutes, yours
Give yourself the ten minutes
Not a clip and not a preview. The whole session, and no sign up. Then decide whether the rest is worth it.

Headphones help. If you are awake at three anyway, this is a reasonable thing to reach for rather than lying there arguing with yourself.
Whatever you noticed just then was your own doing. The session is only the way in.

“As a nurse and mom, I needed better sleep. Mindshift Mentors’ recordings help me relax and sleep deeply.”

Sleeping 7-8 hours again
“After years of struggling, I’m now getting full nights of sleep. Only 10 days into the audio. Thank you!”

Asleep before it ends
“I love the Mindshift Mentor recordings. I have long suffered a busy mind especially at night when the worry demons invade. If I can quiet my mind I quickly fall back asleep. I have tried so many things, psychologists, warm milk before bed, sliced turkey haha, yoga, warm shower/bath, journaling - you name it. However what has really helped is listening to these soothing guided meditations - I don’t know if I have actually made it to the end of one! I simply play them on my ipad before the mind starts and I’m out of it. Such a great find and the small investment has a big payday when i jump out of bed and aren’t tired during the day!”

Waking up with a relaxed jaw
“I had developed a really bad habit of clenching and grinding my teeth at night, especially during stressful periods. It was affecting my sleep and starting to impact my mood and energy levels. My brother Callan told me about Mindshift Mentors, so I decided to try their audio sessions. I didn’t know what to expect, but Rob’s voice is so calm and grounding, and the sessions just clicked with me. After a few nights of listening, I noticed a huge difference. I was waking up with a relaxed jaw and sleeping more deeply. If you’re struggling with nighttime jaw tension, I can’t recommend Mindshift Mentors highly enough. It’s made such a difference in my life.”

Blown away by the difference
“I had been grinding my teeth in my sleep for years, and nothing seemed to help, not even the expensive mouthguards. I was constantly waking up with jaw pain and headaches. A friend recommended Mindshift Mentors, and I started listening to their audio sessions. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from the very first audio, something shifted. The way Rob explains things just made sense, and the sessions helped me let go of the tension I didn’t even realise I was holding. Honestly, I’m blown away. This approach is unlike anything I’ve tried.”

Finally waking up refreshed
“Rob’s hypnotherapy actually worked! I now fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up refreshed.”

What it actually is
How Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming works
Traditional therapy tends to work on the story. This helps with what sits underneath it, where automatic habits and stress responses actually form.
Rob Edmonds explains the method, about six minutes
-
It skips the conscious chatter
No going over the argument and no talking it through. The session helps with the response that fires long before any of your reasoning gets a turn.
-
Nothing gets relived
You are not asked to go back into old hurt, which is why people who cannot face rehashing things can still do this.
-
Nothing to practise in the daytime
Strategic Psychotherapy and behavioural science combined. The whole of it happens while you are listening, so there are no exercises to keep up and nothing to remember during the day.
The program is built around 21 days of listening, one session a day. What people notice, and when, varies a lot, and we make no promise about either. If you want the method in full, here is how Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming works.

What is actually going on
Why the mind part is the part nobody warned you about
Start with your doctor. Hormone therapy, bleeding changes, hot flushes and anything physical belong there, and so does ruling out the other things that look like this: thyroid problems, low iron, sleep apnoea and depression. This page is about one part only, the reactive mind that comes with it, and it is the part that gets the least attention.
Most conversations about menopause stay on the physical. Hormones, heat, weight, sleep. Those are real and they matter. The mental and emotional side is just as big and gets a fraction of the airtime, which is why so many women arrive at this thinking something is wrong with them personally.
What was oestrogen actually doing?
Far more than reproduction. It plays an active part in regulating the stress response.
- It supports serotonin and dopamine, helps maintain memory and clear thinking, and moderates how quickly the brain reads something as a threat.
- As it fluctuates and declines, the brain becomes more reactive and the nervous system more sensitive.
- Old anxieties resurface, and regulating your emotions gets harder.
- Thinking patterns that were manageable before get louder, faster and harder to interrupt. The self criticism, the overthinking, the jumping to the worst version. That is neurochemistry, not you slipping.
Why now, when I have handled worse before?
The buffer that was absorbing it has quietly disappeared.
- Most women reaching their forties and fifties have spent decades managing high demand: work, family, other people's needs, the lot.
- The nervous system has been running on alert for years, with cortisol elevated so long the body stopped registering it as unusual.
- Then hormonal support for stress regulation reduces, and the accumulated load becomes suddenly visible.
- What is left fires quickly and comes back down slowly. Anxiety with no clear cause, waking in the early hours with the mind going, reactions out of proportion, tension in the jaw, shoulders and gut, and the bone tired exhaustion that sleep does not fix.
Is brain fog a sign of something serious?
Changes in hormones, sleep, stress and other factors can all contribute to difficulties with memory, concentration and clear-thinking during menopause.
- Losing a word mid sentence is one of the most frightening parts of this, and a lot of women quietly wonder whether something serious is starting.
- Which makes working on the stress response one of the more direct routes to thinking clearly, rather than a soft extra.
Why do I not recognise myself?
Menopause is a threshold in identity as well as in biology, and the second one has no blood test.
- Women describe a kind of internal estrangement: not recognising their own reactions, their interests, their emotional weather, sometimes their face.
- It is unsettling, and it is almost never addressed in a conversation about hormone levels.
- What is happening is three things at once. Neurochemical change, accumulated stress, and a collision between who you have been and who you are becoming.
What does this program actually do?
It helps with the reactive, overwhelmed mind, not your hormones.
- What it targets. The anxiety with no cause, the three in the morning churn, the self criticism that has got louder, and the sense of having lost yourself.
- In a relaxed state, without asking you to talk anything through.
- About 20 minutes a day and pressing play.
- It does not change your hormones and it takes no position on hormone therapy, which is a conversation for you and your doctor. Built to sit alongside whatever medical care you are having, not instead of it.
How the Mindshift Method fits
The Mindshift Method app can be used alongside appropriate medical, psychological or therapeutic care where required.
Naming it properly
Which of These Sounds Most Like What You’re Experiencing?
Nine of them, in plain language. They are not all the same thing, and they do not all need the same kind of support. Here is how to tell the difference, including where this pathway may help and where your doctor should come first.
- Green · what the sessions are built around
- Amber · may help with part of it, alongside other care
- Red · not the right tool, start elsewhere
-
Menopause anxiety
A persistent undercurrent of worry, often with no clear cause, that arrived somewhere in your forties and did not used to be there.
That kind of persistent, no-clear-cause worry is exactly what the program is built for, and there is a session for it specifically.
-
Brain fog
Losing words mid sentence, reading the same line three times, walking into a room with no idea why. Well documented, and linked to oestrogen's role in neural connectivity plus what sustained cortisol does to memory.
Working on the stress response is one of the more direct routes to thinking more clearly. If the fog is severe or getting worse, get it checked rather than assuming it is hormonal.
-
Waking at three in the morning
Getting to sleep is not the problem. Waking in the early hours with the mind already going at full speed is.
Two sessions aimed here. If the nights are the worst of it by a distance, the Sleep and Recovery program goes deeper and is in the same subscription.
-
Emotional overwhelm, rage and tears
Reactions out of proportion to what caused them. Crying at an advert, then snapping at somebody who did nothing much. A very low threshold, arriving faster than you can catch it.
The regulation side is exactly what the sessions help with.
-
Tension you are carrying in your body
Jaw clenching, shoulders up around your ears, digestive trouble driven by stress rather than by anything you ate.
Stress driven, so the pattern work applies. Get the jaw looked at by a dentist as well, because grinding damages teeth quietly.
-
Exhaustion that sleep does not fix
Bone tired, and a full night makes no difference to it.
See your doctor before you put this down to menopause. Thyroid problems, low iron, sleep apnoea and depression all present this way and all need treating properly. Once that is ruled out, the stress load is what this helps with.
-
Not recognising yourself
A kind of internal estrangement. Your reactions, your interests, your emotional weather, sometimes your face in the mirror. Deeply felt and almost never discussed in an appointment about hormone levels.
Self-Worth and Identity is the session for this, and it is one of the most used on the whole program.
-
Low mood that is not lifting
Different from overwhelm. Flat rather than reactive, for weeks rather than days, with nothing much to look forward to.
Please see your doctor. Depression is common around this transition, it is treatable, and it deserves proper treatment rather than an audio session. This can sit alongside that once you have it in hand.
-
Hot flushes, night sweats and bleeding changes
The physical side, which is the part most people mean when they say menopause.
That is your doctor's, not ours. This program does nothing to your hormones and makes no claim about physical symptoms. We are not going to pretend otherwise to sell you a subscription.
One thing worth saying plainly. Hormone therapy is a medical decision between you and your doctor, and nothing on this page argues for it or against it. Plenty of women do both this and that, and they are not in competition. And if things are bad right now, in Australia Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and the Suicide Call Back Service is on 1300 659 467, both free and both open all night.
You have not lost yourself. The volume has been turned up on everything.

Clearing it up
What this is not
Worth being straight about, because it gets confused with all four.
-
Not a hormone treatment
It does nothing to your oestrogen and it is not an alternative to anything your doctor might offer. If somebody sells you audio as a replacement for medical care during menopause, walk away from them.
-
Not a position on hormone therapy
We are not for it and not against it. It is a decision between you and your doctor, based on your history, and it has nothing to do with whether this helps the mental side.
-
Not talk therapy
There is no session where you explain what is happening to you. The Mindshift Method does not require you to explain or retell your story during the audio session. The sessions focus on present-day patterns and responses.
-
Not treatment for depression
Low mood that has not lifted for weeks is a different thing and it needs a doctor. If things are bad right now, Lifeline is on 13 11 14, free and open all night.
This will not suit everyone
Here is who it tends to work for, and who should look elsewhere first.
It tends to suit you if
- The anxiety and the reactivity are the part costing you the most
- You wake at three with the mind already at full speed
- You have had the physical side looked at and this bit was left unaddressed
- You want something that costs 20 minutes and no new regime
- You would rather not talk it through with anybody
It probably does not suit you if
- You are looking for something to change hot flushes or bleeding
- You want advice on whether to take hormone therapy
- Your mood has been flat for weeks and you have not seen a doctor
- You cannot find about 20 minutes most days
- You are in crisis and need help now rather than a program
Please have the physical side seen by a doctor, and get the other causes of exhaustion and fog ruled out rather than assumed. If things are bad right now, in Australia Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and the Suicide Call Back Service is on 1300 659 467, both free and both open all night. This work is designed for the long grind, not for an emergency.
The man behind the MindShift Method
One voice, every session in the library
Rob Edmonds
Strategic Psychotherapist
Accredited practitioner LIC#110226 · ISPA accredited · ASCH member
Rob was nineteen and could not speak in front of a room. Not nervous, genuinely unable, and it was costing him exams. He tried something he had run out of reasons not to try, and a few sessions sorted it. It worked in a way that annoyed him slightly, because it should not have been that straightforward. That quietly shaped everything after it.
He trained at the Institute of Applied Psychology in Sydney and went on to create Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming, part of the MindShift Method. He writes and voices every session in the library himself, and still sees clients one to one.
Menopause, Identity and Emotional Reset FAQs
Is this instead of hormone therapy?
This is not an alternative to hormone therapy, and it is not an argument against it either. Hormone therapy is a medical decision between you and your doctor, based on your history. These sessions help with the mental and emotional side, which for a lot of women is the part still left over after the physical side has been dealt with. Plenty of women do both.
Will it help the hot flushes?
We are not going to claim these sessions help with hot flushes. Nothing here does anything to your hormones. What they help with is the anxiety, the reactivity, the night time churn and the sense of not being yourself. If somebody offers you audio for hot flushes, be sceptical.
I am perimenopausal, not menopausal. Does it still apply?
Perimenopause counts, and it is often when the mental side is at its most confusing, because the hormonal picture is still moving and nobody has named it yet. The reactivity and the fog do not wait for a date on a calendar.
Is the brain fog permanent?
Nobody can promise you an outcome, and we are not going to. What is documented is that menopause brain fog is neurologically explainable and linked to oestrogen's role in neural connectivity and to what sustained stress does to memory. When the nervous system is chronically activated, the part of the brain that handles clear thinking is less available, which is why working on the stress side is worth doing. If it is severe or worsening, please get it looked at properly.
I am already on antidepressants. Can I still do this?
You can use this while taking antidepressants, and keep taking them. The Mindshift Method is a self help support tool rather than a substitute for medical treatment, and nothing here interacts with medication. Tell your doctor you are doing it, the same as you would with anything else.
What if I had a surgical or early menopause?
The mental side is often sharper when it arrives suddenly rather than over years, because there is no gradual adjustment and often no warning. The sessions are about the reactivity and the identity part, so they apply. The medical side of an early or surgical menopause needs proper specialist care and that is separate.
I cannot concentrate for twenty minutes. Is that a problem?
Not being able to concentrate for twenty minutes is not a problem, and it is close to the point. There is nothing to concentrate on and nothing to remember. A wandering mind is fine, drifting off is fine, and there is a ten minute session for the days when twenty is too much.
Is this just telling me to relax?
This is not a suggestion that you relax, and it would deserve the eye roll if it were. Being told to relax asks you to do something with a nervous system that has already reached its limit. This works the other way around: it helps with the response itself while you listen.
How will I know whether it is working?
It usually shows up as something that did not happen rather than as feeling calm on demand, which is what people expect and then go looking for. The reaction you did not have, the three in the morning that you slept through, the small thing that stayed small. This pathway is built around 21 days of listening, one session a day. Some people notice changes quickly while others find change develops more gradually. Individual experiences vary. We cannot tell you in advance which you will be. There is a 30 day money back guarantee from your first payment for that reason.
