Sound familiar

The hour before lights out has become the hardest hour of the day

There is nothing wrong with your child. Behaviour is not the problem. It is the pattern sitting underneath it, and patterns can be changed.

  • Settling takes an hour, and every night there is one more reason not to go to sleep.
  • The dark is a problem, so the light stays on, or you do.
  • Big feelings arrive fast and escalate faster, over something small.
  • They wake in the night and end up in your bed, or you end up in theirs.
  • The worrying starts the moment the room goes quiet.
  • They react before they think, and are upset with themselves afterwards.
  • There are night time accidents, and everyone is tiptoeing around it.
  • Anything new gets refused before it gets tried.
  • You walk on eggshells through the evening so the whole thing does not go up.
  • Everyone starts the next morning on edge, on not enough sleep.

Left alone, a bedtime pattern gets more practised, not less. Whether you are a mum, a dad, a grandparent, a foster carer or whoever else is doing the bedtime shift, you have almost certainly tried the reward charts and the routines and staying calm on an empty tank. The problem was never you.

Why nothing has held

You have already tried most of this

None of it is useless. It is all just aimed at the behaviour rather than at the pattern driving it.

  • Reward charts and stickers

They can shift what a child does for a while, because there is something in it. They do not touch how bedtime feels, so the moment the chart stops the old pattern is still sitting there.

  • A stricter routine

Worth having, and it helps a lot of households. A settled routine still does not settle a nervous system that has learned to switch on at lights out.

  • Reasoning and explaining

Children do not learn the way adults do. Logic and correction land in the part of the mind that is not running bedtime.

  • Lying with them until they drop off

It works, right up until you try to leave. It teaches that sleep needs you in the room, which is a harder pattern to undo than the one you started with.

  • Screens to wind down

They quieten the room and light the brain up. For a lot of children the settling problem starts here rather than at bedtime.

  • Waiting for them to grow out of it

Some children do. For the ones who do not, every night that passes is another night of the same pattern being rehearsed.

You cannot instruct a child into feeling safe at night, and pushing harder tends to make bedtime worse. The pattern lives below conscious thought, which is exactly the layer these stories are designed to help with.

Before you decide anything

Hear it from the person who built it

Rob explains what Dream Glow Hollow is, why bedtime is the moment that matters most, and what to expect. Four minutes, nothing to sign up for.

Rob Edmonds on Dream Glow Hollow and Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming, four minutes

  1. Children learn through story, not instruction

Imagination, emotion and repetition are how a young mind takes things on. A story gets in where an explanation does not.

  2. Bedtime is the receptive moment

A child settling for sleep is already relaxed and open. That is the point in the day when a new pattern has the best chance of landing.

  3. Nothing is asked of your child

No exercises, no discussion afterwards, no homework for you. They listen, and if they fall asleep partway through, that is expected.

That is the whole thing. You press play and go and sit down.

What it actually is

Bedtime stories with a structured psychological framework underneath

These are not ordinary bedtime stories, and they are not white noise. Each one is structured around Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming, the method Rob built for working underneath behaviour rather than on top of it.

A Dream Glow Hollow story is a pattern delivery system dressed as a story. It uses narrative learning, repetition of a calm emotional state, indirect suggestion, and the fact that a relaxed mind takes things on more easily than a braced one. Over time, the idea is that new patterns start to sit where the old ones were.

What that is designed to build, gently and without correction: a calmer nervous system and less emotional overwhelm, readiness for sleep, a sense of safety, a pause before reacting, and a bit more confidence and flexible thinking than there was before.

Children respond differently and at different speeds, and we make no promise about either. If you want the method in full, here is how Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming works.

How to use it

Four steps, and three of them are doing nothing

  1. Play the story at bedtime

Phone or tablet, speaker or headphones, whatever suits your house. Lights already low.

  2. Let them listen

They can lie there, fidget, or drift off in the first five minutes. All of it is fine.

  3. Do not explain or analyse it

No questions afterwards, no checking what they took from it. Asking turns it into a task.

  4. Repeat it

Consistency is the part that matters. The same story, night after night, is how a pattern gets learned.

No corrections, no pressure, and nothing that has to be forced.

Being straight about it

This will not suit everyone

It is not right for every child, and it is cheaper for both of us to say so here.

It tends to suit your household if

  • Your child is between about 4 and 10
  • Bedtime has turned into a negotiation most nights
  • Big feelings arrive faster than your child can manage them
  • You would rather not add another chart or another rule
  • You can give it about 20 minutes most nights

It probably does not suit you if

  • You are looking for a diagnosis or an assessment
  • Your child is much younger or well into their teens
  • You need something that works the first night, every night
  • Your child will not tolerate audio at bedtime
  • Something is going on that needs help now

This is a supportive tool, not clinical treatment, and it does not replace medical, psychological or paediatric care. It is designed to be used alongside whatever support your child already has. If something about your child's sleep, mood or behaviour is worrying you, speak to your GP or paediatrician rather than starting with an app. Persistent bedwetting, breathing problems in sleep and sudden changes in behaviour all need looking at properly. The man behind the MindShift Method

Who built this, and why he built it for children

Rob Edmonds, Strategic Psychotherapist and creator of Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming

Rob Edmonds

Strategic Psychotherapist

Accredited practitioner LIC#110226 · ISPA accredited · ASCH member

Rob has spent years working clinically with attention and focus difficulties including ADHD, anxiety and emotional regulation, behavioural challenges, and stress and trauma responses. Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming is his system for working on those patterns at the source rather than at the surface.

Dream Glow Hollow brings that to children aged 4 to 10, who do not need more instruction. As Rob puts it, children are not misbehaving, they are responding from patterns their brain has learned to run. He created the program and the framework underneath it, and it is narrated for children rather than in his own voice, unlike the rest of the library.

Dream Glow Hollow FAQs

Is this safe for my child?

These stories are non invasive, gentle, written for young children, and free of anything distressing. A story guides your child into a relaxed state and introduces calm, supportive patterns. Your child stays in control the whole way through, and they can stop it at any point.

What if my child just falls asleep partway through?

Falling asleep partway through is expected, and on this pathway it is rather the point. The learning is designed to happen while your child is relaxed rather than through conscious effort, so nothing is missed and there is nothing to catch up on.

What do the seven free nights actually include?

The free trial gives you one story, The Bedtime Bells, unlocked for seven nights, and no credit card is needed to start. You do not get the whole series free, and you do not choose the story. Play it each night and see whether anything settles. If you subscribe afterwards it is $29.95 a month, and there is a 30 day money back guarantee from your first payment.

Is this evidence based?

Dream Glow Hollow is built on established principles from strategic psychotherapy, narrative learning, indirect suggestion and emotional regulation, approaches widely used for working at the level of underlying patterns rather than surface behaviour. That is not the same as saying this specific pathway has been through a clinical trial, and we are not going to claim that it has.

Is this hypnosis for children?

Each one is a guided bedtime story built on a structured psychological framework. Your child stays aware and in control, exactly as they would listening to any other story. Nobody is put under, and nothing happens that a child would not notice or could not stop.

How long until we notice anything?

We cannot tell you, and anyone giving you a number is guessing. Some children respond quickly and for others it builds slowly, and it will not be better every night on the way. Consistency is what makes the difference. If nothing has shifted by the end of the trial, cancel it.

Will this replace the support my child already has?

These stories do not replace the support your child already has, and they are not meant to. This is a supportive tool that sits alongside medical, psychological or paediatric care, not in place of any of it. If your child is seeing someone, keep seeing them.

My child has ADHD or autism. Is this suitable?

Plenty of families in that position use the library, and the stories make no assumptions about diagnosis. What they need is a child who will tolerate listening to audio at bedtime, which varies a lot. This is not a treatment for either, and it does not replace the support your child is getting. If you are unsure, ask whoever is already working with your child.

Can more than one child listen?

More than one child can listen, and there is no extra charge per child. A membership is one login, so siblings share the same account, listening together or one after the other.

Do I need to sit with them?

You only need to sit with them if you both want to. A lot of parents start in the room and stop once bedtime settles down. The story does not need you there to work, and part of the point is that it does not need you there.

Is there anything in it for me?

The same membership opens over 50 recordings for adults, covering sleep, stress, anxiety, habits and confidence. Most parents who come here for their child end up using something themselves, which is the honest reason the plan is priced the way it is.
